Let us know how we can improve QuickBooks Self-Employed!

Customize categories
Even if you could just create "subcategories" under a specific categoty to fit your needs. For instance, under "assets", I would put "music" and "equipment". Under "office supplies", I might add "lesson supplies". I am a music teacher. This would still be aligned with the schedule c categories, bit would allow me to stay more organized as these broad categories apply to my business.
2,115 votesThank you so much for your phenomenal ideas! We know implementing custom categories has been our most requested feature since we launched QuickBooks Self-Employed.
In order to make sure we provide the best possible solution, we’re actively researching how we could approach this so that it solves for the primary concerns that folks have raised here while also preserving the integrity of the Schedule C categories to ensure your Estimated Taxes aren’t negatively impacted.
We’ll keep you in the loop on our progress and will share any details as soon as we have them. In the meantime, keep the feedback coming!

Personal tracking
Add reports and more personal tracking/accounting options
898 votesThank you for your feedback. As you’ve experienced, QuickBooks Self-Employed’s purpose today is just to keep track of your business income and spending, but we do hear you, and recognize that not being able to track all of your finances (business as well as personal) in the same tool can be annoying. We currently don’t have upcoming plans to enable personal finance tracking in QuickBooks Self-Employed as it would open the door to too much additional tax and reporting complexity that we don’t believe we can effectively support in the near term. That said, your continued feedback on the issue helps to tip the scales toward creating a solution and accomodating that complexity. We’d love to hear more about how you track your personal finances today, Mint or otherwise, and what tracking your personal finances in QuickBooks Self-Employed would need to do in order to work for you. Thank you…

Retirement deductions
able to categorize SEP and 401K/pre-taxed items
511 votesThank you for all the feedback! We totally agree with how important tracking retirement deductions is for your Estimated Taxes.
While we don’t have anything specific planned right now, we are reviewing your feedback and thinking through how we can best solve this problem. As soon as we have any updates to share, we’ll post them here.

State Taxes
State Self employment tax calculator. Its nice to know what we owe the federal government but a lot of states are going to charge us with self employment tax also.
490 votesThank you for your feedback! Similar to what we shared with the idea for adding multiple vehicles, adding the ability to track State Taxes has implications for sending data to TurboTax, but also would require that we provide a great experience for how to pay your estimated State taxes.
We’re reviewing your feedback and researching how we could solve for this need. As soon as we have anything to share, we’ll post it here.

Inventory
Need the ability to categorize Inventory Purchases. This is on the Schedule C under COGS. As of now, my purchases are being imported but I can't properly categorize them.
320 votesThanks for your feedback! We’re currently reviewing your feedback and researching this idea. As soon as we have any updates, we’ll post them here.

W2 income
Hello, love the app.
How do I categorize my W2 income from my regular full time job. Right now I have it as Personal.
The business expenses and mileage I am claiming are applied to my 1099 - business income as a part time uber driver.
Do Include my W2 income as business income? Or personal? Do the mileage and expenses apply W2 income as well?
Thank you

Assets and Depreciation
Please add the ability to add assets to the business profile, like a rental home for example, and then integrate depreciation into the tax estimates to better understand estimated taxes. Thanks.

Add 'Cost of Goods Sold' Category for Self-Employed
'Cost of Goods Sold' (COGS) Category is 100% necessary for ALL businesses who purchase goods & resell them. It's crucial to be able to report taxes accurately to the IRS, so they don't think we made more money than we actually did. Example: Your good was purchased for $100 by a customer, however, the business spent $80 on product, resulting in $20 profit. However, since Quick Books doesn't offer a 'Cost of Goods Sold' Category...it looks as though the business profited $100 even though we only profited $20...which will result in IRS coming after you because it will appear you…

Please add a Donation category to the Self-Employed version of Quickbooks.
The Self-Employed version needs a Donation category. I can't imagine I'm the only self-employed person who gives charitably through my business. The option is needed for tax purposes and so I don't have to select Uncategorized when categorizing the expense.
Thanks!

Categorize Personal Spending
There are a lot of personal spending that isn't categorized, with turbo tax import feature it would be suggested to add the ability to categorize personal spending for tax purposes. Adding this feature to categorize personal transactions and allow the ability to import that into turbotax is a big bonus for me!
Find deductions in personal spending as well which turbotax has a ton if you filed with them before. Just to name a few when it comes from donations, insurance premiums, scholarships, even 401k contributions.
I think this is probably the biggest feature they can add so you don't…

Please add state self-employed tax to self employed QB....
State income tax option on the self employed QB would be a huge help for those of us who have to pay state too. This would create a full service option that would make life easier for tax season!
Please consider adding this option.8 votes -
Joint filing options
Create another check box that is available for self-employed individuals who file jointly, the check box would ask if the spouses income is withheld by an employer. If yes, then the system should only use that income to calculate the tax bracket for estimated tax withholdings of the self-employed individual and NOT use the spouse's income with calculating the actual estimated tax payment.

Home Office Utilities
In the QB Self Employed software it has Home Office Utilities and Utilities. Home Office is for only the portion used for a home office and Utilities are for a business only. I would like to see the option to apply my entire home utilities, since I'm required to report them when filing. From there a percentage based on square footage is used to determine my home office portion. When using QB Self Employed there is no way for me to track this correctly, which I find odd as I would like to flag my transactions, as I make these…
